Here is a clip of the first track we recorded from our March 24th Cassette Sessions Volume One. In this session we ran Dr. Gamage’s mic and computer into the mixer. He had a midi keyboard hooked up to the computer and had the VST preset on a string synth sound. Then we plugged My(Griffin) Mic into the board and added a delay effect to it that was running through the FX Send that was run into a Behringer Virtualizer Pro. The mixer then was ran through Griffin’s computer Via his audio interface. He ran a drum machine and several other VSTs as well as Dr. Gamage’s set up into the audio interface outs, which then ran straight into a vintage Panasonic Cassette Deck 610.
This track is a clip from the first improvisational jam. The audio levels were not set right which caused a little distortion on some of the lower frequencies, which I think make it sound pretty cool. Plus you can hear the tape hiss, which adds a little something to this low-fi recording. I blew into a bottle next to my mic in part of the recording. I also used a Sony Mini Cassette recorder and rewound and fast forwarded the tape while it played in other parts. I also did a little bit of beat boxing.
Dr. Gamage is responsible for the screams and other ambient vocals heard.
